Dorch­ester His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety His­tory Book Club Sept. 7

In its sec­ond year, the Dorch­ester County His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety His­tory Book Club con­tin­ues to meet at the his­toric Mered­ith House un­der the di­rec­tion of Laura Lay­ton, re­tired high school English teacher. The Septem­ber meet­ing will be at noon Fri­day, Sept. 7, (pizza pro­vided) and the book is “Women in the Cas­tle” by Jes­sica Shat­tuck. Salem UM Church Oys­ter Sand­wich Sale Sept. 8

Salem United Methodist Church will have an oys­ter sand­wich sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Satur­day, Sept. 8, at Mid­dle­town Branch Road in Salem. In ad­di­tion to sand­wiches for sale, there will be a bake sale, yard sale and silent auc­tion. The pro­ceeds will ben­e­fit the church’s sanc­tu­ary beau­ti­fi­ca­tion project.


Wes­leyan Church Com­mu­nity Sup­per Sept. 8

Cam­bridge Wes­leyan Church, at the cor­ner of Wash­ing­ton and Race streets in Cam­bridge, will have a free com­mu­nity sup­per from noon to 8 p.m. Satur­day, Sept 8. Richard­son Mar­itime Mu­seum Ship Visit Sept. 8-9

The Richard­son Mar­itime Mu­seum is sched­uled to wel­come the Mary­land Dove to Cam­bridge. The mu­seum’s own Jim Richard­son built the tall ship in 1978. It serves as St. Mary’s City float­ing am­bas­sador. The mu­seum is cel­e­brat­ing the ship’s 40th an­niver­sar y with the visit to the East­ern Shore. The planks will be down from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Satur­day, Sept. 8, and Sun­day, Sept. 9. Tours of the ship will be open to the pub­lic. Do­na­tions will be ac­cepted.

Church Creek VFC Aux­il­iary Bingo Sept. 8

The Church Creek VFC Aux­il­iary will host bingo Satur­day, Sept. 8. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games start at 6 p.m. There will be food and en­ter­tain­ment for the en­tire fam­ily.

Dorch­ester His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety Pro­gram Meet­ing Sept. 11

The Dorch­ester County His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety in­vites the pub­lic to bring their rec­om­men­da­tions for pro­gram­ming and an ex­hibit on Dorch­ester County’s best- it’s first re­spon­ders dur­ing a meet­ing at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11. A ca­sual for­mat is planned to al­low for mostly pub­lic in­put for this dis­cus­sion. If you would like to honor a per­son who em­bod­ies the self­less and heroic char­ac­ter­is­tics that are true to th­ese pub­lic ser­vants, bring your knowl­edge along with any pho­tos and ar­ti­facts that help tell the story. If you or some­one you know have been part of a group that jumps into ac­tion when needed, please come and share. Our only re­quire­ment is that they be from Dorch­ester. Hunter Safety Class Sept. 12, 14, 19, 21, 22

A five-ses­sion Hunter Safety Ed­u­ca­tion Class is sched­uled for 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 12, 14, 19, 21, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Satur­day Sept. 22. All ses­sions will be held at the Then­dara 4-H Cen­ter, 6275 Lord’s Cross­ing Road near Hur­lock. Ages 12 and un­der must be ac­com­pa­nied by an adult par­ent or guardian. The class is open to all in­ter­ested per­sons. There is no fee to take this course. If you have a dis­abil­ity that re­quires spe­cial as­sis­tance for your par­tic­i­pa­tion in this class, please con­tact Con­rad Arnold at 410-330-5967 prior to Sept. 12.
