RPM: Real Pro Mod
WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU ADD 3,000-PLUS HORSEPOWER, A SHORT WHEELBASE AND A SPRUNG SUSPENSION? Pro Mod, the Fuel Altereds of the new millennium, and arguably the most exciting eliminator category in drag racing.
There are some major changes coming this season, all of which should further amp up this eliminator. The most consequential being E3 Spark Plugs’ announcement of a four-year series title sponsorship for NHRA Pro Mod. Rob Fisher, vice president of motorsports for E3 Spark Plugs says, “Pro Mod racing is the most exciting form of drag racing today, and we couldn’t be happier to lend our support to the fastest growing series in NHRA racing.”
Happily, J&A Service will also maintain its commitment to the series.
Speaking of “fastest growing,” car counts for this series have been stellar. Going into the new season, you can expect to see this trend continue.
There are several other changes of note. The Pro Mod association will make a second trip to the Texas Motorplex for the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals. The 12-race schedule will be maintained, and in order to do so, the Atlanta race has been dropped. Race scheduling has been revised as well. Pro Mod will now receive four qualifying sessions—two Friday and two Saturday—with the first round of eliminations on Sunday, just like the rest of the pro classes.
With all the good news, the challenge of maintaining parity between the blown, turbo and nitrous competitors remains. One of the most exciting aspects of Pro Mod, the three unique power adders, creates a delicate balancing act. Stay tuned to learn the steps being taken to maintain a level playing field.
This year is shaping up to be another barnburner of a season for the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Series presented by J&A Service.
