Social media has come a long way over the past decade. Your parents are probably tagging their friends on Facebook and Grandma can even hold a conversation about what’s happening on “The Gram.” But how can you be sure you are connecting with your friends “the right way?” We have 5 tips and trends to follow while posting those flawless selfies! 1. Account Privacy Remember what happened to Katy Perry “Last Friday Night?” Don’t let it happen to you! Be sure that your account settings are turned to private, making it mandatory for potential followers to request you. Take a look at follower’s pages, other followers and photos to be sure that you know the person before hitting Accept. 2. Sooo Artsy Phone cameras are just as good as the professionals now. Take advantage! Use social media to post cool angles and colorful shots. Social media is a great way to build a small portfolio of cool photos you have taken. These can be used for photo contests, school projects or just conversation starters with friends! 3. Post Positivity Social media is for posting of course! You should have fun sharing pics of cool things you are doing with your friends, family, or even on your own! Before posting, ask yourself if your oldest family member would be proud of your post. If not, take a moment to reconsider! If the answer is yes, than snap, post, and tweet away! Just be sure the post is a true reflection of your best self! 4. A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words But your caption brings its worth down to just 10. Captions say a lot about a photo and can make a cool, fun one into the opposite. Be sure your words are just as great as the photos you are taking. Inspirational quotes, nice song lyrics or a simple description of the picture are good practices when labeling your posts. 5. Build A Resume Your Instagram bio is your new handshake. Use your social media profile to shine! Won an award at a school? Hit a home run at baseball? Baked an awesome cake? Show it off! Now- a- days, teachers, guidance counselors, high school and college admissions coordinators, and more are looking at your social media profiles before they meet you in person. Show them that you rock! Your social media channel can serve as your best resume, if you post the right photos!
