Police investigate second homicide in three days
Jeremiah T. Green wanted for first-degree murder
An El Dorado man was killed Sunday afternoon and a warrant was later issued for the man who is suspected of shooting him in the second homicide to occur in the city within three days.
Jeremiah T. Green, 22, of El Dorado, is wanted for first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a certain person with an enhanced penalty for offenses committed in the presence of a child and a felony committed with a firearm.
El Dorado police did not release the name of the 32-yearold victim, pending notification of family members.
It was the second homicide to occur in El Dorado this year, coming three days after the murder of 11-year-old Comesico T. Pumphrey in the area of East Cook and Louisiana.
Officers responded at 1:55 p.m. Sunday to a report of a man lying on the ground between two vehicles on the parking lot of Hillsboro Town House Apartments, 1600 Short E. Hillsboro.
Capt. Kevin Holt, public information officer for the EPD, said the call came just before a thunderstorm rumbled through the area, and while officers and emergency medical workers were en route, 911 dispatchers received another call saying that it appeared the man had been shot.
Holt said the man was pronounced dead on the scene by the Union County Coroner’s Office. The body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Details about the investigation remained sketchy Sunday evening.
“At this point, we’re waiting on a positive identification from the family. At this point, we don’t have a motive ... We’re still investigating and talking to residents in the apartment complex,” Holt said.
The investigation into the shooting death of Pumphrey is also ongoing, Holt said.
Pumphrey was struck by a stray bullet Thursday evening as he stood in his grandmother’s front yard at 722 Louisiana. Police were called to the scene at approximately 6:45 p.m.
Pumphrey was transported by ambulance to Medical Center of South Arkansas and was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Two men, 20-year-old Shaquille O. Green — no relation to Jeremiah Green — and 24-year-old Patrick L. Rogers, subsequently turned themselves in to the EPD on arrest warrants for capital murder, committing a terroristic act, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by certain persons, and engaging in violent criminal group activity, with penalty enhancements for offenses committed in the presence of a child and a felony committed with a firearm.
Holt said the pair fired shots at each other in and around the 1200 block of East Cook, and a bullet traveled some distance to the west and struck Pumphrey.
Holt said the shooting stemmed from a “neighborhood dispute” between Shaquille Green and Rogers.
Investigators have not yet established the circumstances that led to the dispute or determined which man fired
the fatal shot. The gun that was used in the shooting has not yet been recovered.
“All of that is part of the investigation. Right now, they’ve both asked for attorneys, so we’re not continuing interviews with them,” Holt said.
The men are being held in the Union County Jail on no-bond warrants. They are scheduled for first appearance hearings today in 35th Judicial District Court, Holt said.
Anyone with information on Jeremiah Green’s whereabouts is urged to call EPD detective Angela Means at (870) 881-4810 or Crime Stoppers at (870) 863-INFO.
He is considered armed and extremely dangerous and caution should be used in approaching him.
Information leading to Jeremiah Green’s arrest could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
