El Do­rado-Union County Cham­ber of Com­merce hosts an­nual ed­u­ca­tors break­fast

The El Do­rado-Union County Cham­ber of Com­merce Ed­u­ca­tors Break­fast, spon­sored by Clark Con­tract­ing and LanXess, will be held at 7:30 a.m. Thurs­day at the El Do­rado Golf & Coun­try Club.

The an­nual event helps wel­come new teach­ers to the com­mu­nity and rec­og­nizes some cur­rent teach­ers for their hard work. The speaker Thurs­day will be Ja­son Mor­ri­son, chan­cel­lor of South­ern Arkansas Uni­ver­sity Tech since Jan. 3.

Mor­ri­son came from Carl Al­bert State Col­lege in Ok­la­homa where he served as the vice pres­i­dent for aca­demic af­fairs. He also was ac­tive in the LeFlore County Youth Ser­vice Board, the LeFlore County His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety Board and a mem­ber of Ro­tary In­ter­na­tional.

Mor­ri­son also served in Lead­er­ship Colum­bus, Op­ti­mist In­ter­na­tional, Cham­ber Am­bas­sador for Al­tus Cham­ber, on a com­mit­tee of 100 who worked on cre­at­ing joint re­la­tion­ship be­tween the Al­tus Air Force Base and the com­mu­nity and a peer re­viewer for the Higher Learn­ing Com­mis­sion, which is an ac­cred­it­ing body for higher ed­u­ca­tion.

Mor­ri­son brought his wife, Stephanie, and their young daugh­ter, Bren­nan, to the area as well. Orig­i­nally from Ben­ton, Mor­ri­son said he was ex­cited to be com­ing home to Arkansas. Stephanie Mor­ri­son is a res­pi­ra­tory ther­a­pist and they have a young daugh­ter, Bren­nan, who will start school next fall.

On be­ing of­fered the po­si­tion of SAU Tech Chan­cel­lor, Mor­ri­son said, “I am humbled to be given this op­por­tu­nity to serve South­ern Arkansas Uni­ver­sity Tech and the SAU Sys­tem. I am look­ing for­ward to build­ing upon the suc­cesses of SAU Tech and com­ing to­gether as fac­ulty, staff, stu­dents, and com­mu­nity in be­com­ing the writ­ers of the great­est part of South­ern Arkansas Uni­ver­sity Tech’s his­tory. Be great. Be Tech.”

The cost to at­tend the break­fast is $18 per per­son and to spon­sor a new teacher is $20. Reser­va­tions are re­quired by Tues­day and can be made by con­tact­ing the cham­ber at 870-863-6113 or cham­ber@goel­do­rado.com. Each new teacher will re­ceive a goodie bag full of do­nated items from lo­cal busi­nesses. In ad­di­tion, new teach­ers are el­i­gi­ble to win door prizes pur­chased with do­na­tions from busi­nesses.
