El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce hosts annual educators breakfast
The El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce Educators Breakfast, sponsored by Clark Contracting and LanXess, will be held at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the El Dorado Golf & Country Club.
The annual event helps welcome new teachers to the community and recognizes some current teachers for their hard work. The speaker Thursday will be Jason Morrison, chancellor of Southern Arkansas University Tech since Jan. 3.
Morrison came from Carl Albert State College in Oklahoma where he served as the vice president for academic affairs. He also was active in the LeFlore County Youth Service Board, the LeFlore County Historical Society Board and a member of Rotary International.
Morrison also served in Leadership Columbus, Optimist International, Chamber Ambassador for Altus Chamber, on a committee of 100 who worked on creating joint relationship between the Altus Air Force Base and the community and a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission, which is an accrediting body for higher education.
Morrison brought his wife, Stephanie, and their young daughter, Brennan, to the area as well. Originally from Benton, Morrison said he was excited to be coming home to Arkansas. Stephanie Morrison is a respiratory therapist and they have a young daughter, Brennan, who will start school next fall.
On being offered the position of SAU Tech Chancellor, Morrison said, “I am humbled to be given this opportunity to serve Southern Arkansas University Tech and the SAU System. I am looking forward to building upon the successes of SAU Tech and coming together as faculty, staff, students, and community in becoming the writers of the greatest part of Southern Arkansas University Tech’s history. Be great. Be Tech.”
The cost to attend the breakfast is $18 per person and to sponsor a new teacher is $20. Reservations are required by Tuesday and can be made by contacting the chamber at 870-863-6113 or email@example.com. Each new teacher will receive a goodie bag full of donated items from local businesses. In addition, new teachers are eligible to win door prizes purchased with donations from businesses.
