Symetra Tour will be to­day through Sun­day at Mys­tic Creek

The Mur­phy USA El Do­rado Shootout, pre­sented by Pep­siCo, will be held to­day through Sun­day at Mys­tic Creek Golf Course in El Do­rado. The Symetra Tour is an op­por­tu­nity for ris­ing young, fe­male golfers to earn a shot at their LPGA Tour Card and it’s also a sig­nif­i­cant lo­cal fundrais­ing op­por­tu­nity, with this year’s event ben­e­fit­ing the Boys & Girls Club of El Do­rado.

This year marks the third year that Mur­phy USA and El Do­rado will host the 54-hole stroke play for­mat event, which was rec­og­nized as first run­ner-up for 2016 Sport­ing Event of the Year by the Arkansas Fes­ti­vals and Events As­so­ci­a­tion.

Artists’ re­cep­tion planned at South Arkansas Arts Cen­ter

South Arkansas Arts Cen­ter will host two area artist’s ex­hibits this month. El Do­rado res­i­dent Kelly Camp­bell will present her show, “Rough­necks and Roustabouts” in the Lobby Gallery, while Robert Fo­gel of Haughton, Louisiana, will

ex­hibit his show, “Find­ing My Way: An Ex­plo­ration in Art” in the Price and Merkle Gal­leries. An artist’s re­cep­tion will be held from 6 un­til 8 p.m. on Satur­day at the arts cen­ter, 110 E. Fifth St. in El Do­rado.

Union County Fair starts Tues­day

The 2017 Union County Fair will be held Sept. 19-23 at the Union County Fair­grounds in El Do­rado, near the in­ter­sec­tion of 19th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boule­vard. FACT Board meet­ing sched­uled

Fam­i­lies and Chil­dren To­gether (FACT) Inc. has sched­uled a joint meet­ing of the Board of Di­rec­tors and Pol­icy Coun­cil for 11:30 a.m. Septem­ber 27 at the FACT, Inc. cen­tral of­fice at 2720 Vine Street. This meet­ing is open to the pub­lic.

Area Agency on Ag­ing to as­sist Med­i­caid ap­pli­cants

Medi­care Open En­roll­ment is quickly ap­proach­ing, giv­ing those on Medi­care an op­por­tu­nity to shop, com­pare Part D plans, and se­lect the best plan for their in­di­vid­ual needs.

This year Open En­roll­ment be­gins Sun­day, Oct. 15, and will con­tinue through De­cem­ber 7. In­di­vid­u­als can do the com­par­i­son them­selves by go­ing to www.medi­care.gov. How­ever, ap­point­ments can be made with an Area Agency on Ag­ing Case Man­ager in the county of res­i­dence.

Re­mem­ber, drug plan in­sur­ances change yearly. That means drug costs pre­mi­ums, de­ductibles and for­mu­las change ev­ery year. Don’t for­get to check your plan for the com­ing year. Use the Medi­care Plan finder at www.medi­care.gov, or call the Area Agency on Ag­ing to make an ap­point­ment for help. In­di­vid­u­als will be seen by ap­point­ment only be­gin­ning Mon­day, Oct. 16, and must bring all med­i­ca­tions and proof of in­come.

Hobby Lobby to cel­e­brate grand open­ing Mon­day

Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., will open its new El Do­rado store with a rib­bon-cut­ting cer­e­mony and grand open­ing cel­e­bra­tion at 9 a.m. Mon­day.

The new 53,000-square-foot store on North West Av­enue in Mel­lor Park Mall is Hobby Lobby’s 15th lo­ca­tion in Arkansas. The store man­ager is Greg Dauben­heyer. Rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the El Do­rado-Union County Cham­ber of Com­merce will be there for the rib­bon cut­ting.
