Symetra Tour will be today through Sunday at Mystic Creek
The Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout, presented by PepsiCo, will be held today through Sunday at Mystic Creek Golf Course in El Dorado. The Symetra Tour is an opportunity for rising young, female golfers to earn a shot at their LPGA Tour Card and it’s also a significant local fundraising opportunity, with this year’s event benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of El Dorado.

This year marks the third year that Murphy USA and El Dorado will host the 54-hole stroke play format event, which was recognized as first runner-up for 2016 Sporting Event of the Year by the Arkansas Festivals and Events Association.
Artists’ reception planned at South Arkansas Arts Center
South Arkansas Arts Center will host two area artist’s exhibits this month. El Dorado resident Kelly Campbell will present her show, “Roughnecks and Roustabouts” in the Lobby Gallery, while Robert Fogel of Haughton, Louisiana, will
exhibit his show, “Finding My Way: An Exploration in Art” in the Price and Merkle Galleries. An artist’s reception will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Saturday at the arts center, 110 E. Fifth St. in El Dorado.
Union County Fair starts Tuesday
The 2017 Union County Fair will be held Sept. 19-23 at the Union County Fairgrounds in El Dorado, near the intersection of 19th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. FACT Board meeting scheduled
Families and Children Together (FACT) Inc. has scheduled a joint meeting of the Board of Directors and Policy Council for 11:30 a.m. September 27 at the FACT, Inc. central office at 2720 Vine Street. This meeting is open to the public.
Area Agency on Aging to assist Medicaid applicants
Medicare Open Enrollment is quickly approaching, giving those on Medicare an opportunity to shop, compare Part D plans, and select the best plan for their individual needs.
This year Open Enrollment begins Sunday, Oct. 15, and will continue through December 7. Individuals can do the comparison themselves by going to www.medicare.gov. However, appointments can be made with an Area Agency on Aging Case Manager in the county of residence.
Remember, drug plan insurances change yearly. That means drug costs premiums, deductibles and formulas change every year. Don’t forget to check your plan for the coming year. Use the Medicare Plan finder at www.medicare.gov, or call the Area Agency on Aging to make an appointment for help. Individuals will be seen by appointment only beginning Monday, Oct. 16, and must bring all medications and proof of income.

Hobby Lobby to celebrate grand opening Monday
Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., will open its new El Dorado store with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration at 9 a.m. Monday.
The new 53,000-square-foot store on North West Avenue in Mellor Park Mall is Hobby Lobby’s 15th location in Arkansas. The store manager is Greg Daubenheyer. Representatives of the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce will be there for the ribbon cutting.
