Park­ers Chapel holds on for win

News-Times Staff PARK­ERS CHAPEL - Park­ers Chapel's de­fense came up with a huge stand, stop­ping a two-point con­ver­sion to knock off Har­mony Grove 21-20 in ju­nior high foot­ball on Thurs­day.

The Tro­jans led 21-8 in the fi­nal stanza be­fore the Hor­nets made their late rally.

How­ever, af­ter get­ting the stop on the two-point con­ver­sion, the Tro­jans re­cov­ered an on­side kick to seal the vic­tory.

Trace Shoup threw a pair of touch­down passes and ran for an­other for the Tro­jans (2-1, 1-0), who won their 8-2A opener.

Shoup tossed a 20-yard strike to Lancer Clark on fourth-and-goal, and Shoup's suc­cess­ful run on the two­point con­ver­sion tied the game at 8-all.

It was the start of 21 unan­swered points for the Tro­jans.

Just be­fore half­time, Shoup scored on a 15-yard run to give the Tro­jans a 14-8 lead at in­ter­mis­sion.

In the third quar­ter, the Tro­jans struck again on fourth down.

On fourth-and-8, Shoup fired a 45-yard touch­down pass to Carter Jones.

Jones then added the ex­tra point to make it 21-8 be­fore the dra­matic fin­ish.

The coach­ing staff said Edi­son Thomp­son had a solid game run­ning the ball for the Tro­jans.

Har­mony Grove won the sev­enth-grade game.

BAR­TON TOPS HAMP­TON TO STAY UN­DE­FEATED The Wild­kit­tens ran their record to 3-0 by down­ing Hamp­ton 29-14 at Memo­rial Sta­dium.

On their first pos­ses­sion, Ah­mad Mar­bray scored on a 19-yard run, and Jackie Wash­ing­ton ran in the two­point con­ver­sion to give Bar­ton an 8-0 lead.

The Wild­kit­tens quickly got the ball back af­ter re­cov­er­ing the kickoff and took ad­van­tage with Shar­mon Rester throw­ing a 10-yard touch­down pass to David Ayree.

Mar­bray's run on the two-point con­ver­sion made it 16-0, which was the score at in­ter­mis­sion.

Af­ter the Bull­dogs pulled to within 16-6, Bar­ton an­swered.

Start­ing at their 30, Kameron Bibby broke free for a 70-yard touch­down run to push the lead to 22-6.

In the fourth quar­ter, Rester closed the Wild­kit­tens' scor­ing with a 70-yard touch­down pass to Wash­ing­ton.

Ad­di­son Du­mas kicked the ex­tra point to give Bar­ton a 29-6 lead be­fore the Bull­dogs scored later in the pe­riod to cap the scor­ing in the con­test.

The coach­ing staff said the de­fense turned in an out­stand­ing per­for­mance. In the "B" game, Hamp­ton and Bar­ton played to a score­less tie.


West Side Chris­tian's vol­ley­ball was downed in straight sets by Chris­tian Min­istries Academy by scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 26-24.

The Lady War­riors also fell in the JV game in straight sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-12.

West Side Chris­tian (12-3) plays at Gar­rett Memo­rial Chris­tian to­day at 4:30 p.m.


Ear­lier this week, Junc­tion City's golf team came in sec­ond place in a three­team match with Cros­sett and Fordyce.

Bren­nan Ay­cock earned medal­ist hon­ors with a 42 for the Dragons.

Clay Jol­ley shot a 52 and Haden Wil­son added a 55 for Junc­tion City, who fin­ished four strokes be­hind Cros­sett with a team score of 149.
