To the Editor:

On behalf of Arkansas’s $7.6 billion tourism industry, please allow me to congratulate El Dorado on the spectacularly successful grand opening events for the Murphy Arts District. For some time now, your downtown project has been the talk of my colleagues in Arkansas’s hospitality sector. After months and months of planning, organizing and construction, MAD is now a wonderful reality.

One of the state’s biggest challenges has been development of new attractions that will both entice return travelers and bring in first-time visitors. Much like a theme park, Arkansas must add these “new rides” every year. The Murphy Arts District is exactly what the doctor ordered, not just for El Dorado and Union County but for the entire state.

All of us eagerly await the next phases of this ambitious undertaking. The forward-thinking civic leaders of your fine city have set a marvelous example for the rest of the state, and I’m hopeful other Arkansas communities will follow your lead.
