His in­no­va­tion: St­ef­feney founded LeaveLogic, a plat­form that al­lows em­ploy­ees to cre­ate a leave plan that con­sol­i­dates all leave ben­e­fits and lists the tasks needed to en­sure proper plan­ning and a suc­cess­ful re­turn to work. It also ed­u­cates HR man­agers by train­ing them on sup­port­ing the em­ployee through their leave. In­surer Unum ac­quired LeaveLogic ear­lier this year.

Why it mat­ters: Leave poli­cies have be­come an in­creas­ingly pop­u­lar way for com­pa­nies to at­tract and re­tain em­ploy­ees. But the poli­cies can be time-in­ten­sive to man­age. The LeaveLogic plat­form aims to sim­plify this while also sav­ing em­ploy­ers money. LeaveLogic con­tends that an em­ployer of 20,000, av­er­ag­ing 1,000 leaves per year with an an­nual LeaveLogic con­tract, would av­er­age a sav­ings of more than $2 mil­lion.
