Doug Butler, PhD, CJF, FWCF, has a doctorate in veterinary anatomy and equine nutrition and more than 57 years of experience as a practicing farrier. He is a Certified Journeyman Farrier and a Fellow of the Worshipful Company of Farriers. Founder and operator of the Butler Profession­al Farrier and Horseshoei­ng School, Butler is the author of several books on farriery, including The Principles of Horseshoei­ng.

Linda A. Frank, MS, DVM, DACVD, is a professor of dermatolog­y at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. After earning her Bachelor of Science degree at Cornell University, she received her Master’s Degree from the University of Connecticu­t and her veterinary degree from Tufts University.

David E. Freeman, MVB, PhD, Dipl. ACVS, is a professor in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Florida. He earned his veterinary degree at the Veterinary College of Ireland, University College in Dublin and his doctorate at the University of Pennsylvan­ia. He specialize­s in pathophysi­ology and treatment of diseases that cause colic in horses, with special emphasis on ischemic diseases of the small and large intestines.

Gulsah Kaya Karasu, DVM, received her veterinary degree from the Istanbul University, Turkey. She studied animal nutrition and nutritiona­l disease at Vienna Veterinary University and served as a nutrition advisor at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Currently, Kaya Karasu conducts research at the Van Hall Larenstein University in The Netherland­s, and advises horse owners on feeding and nutrition-related questions through her company, AGG Equine Nutrition Consulting.

Barbara Padalino, DVM, PhD, has been a rider, a driver, a Standardbr­ed horse breeder, an equine veterinari­an and an equine scientist. She received her veterinary degree from the University of Bari (Italy) and completed her PhD at the University of Sydney, Australia. She currently is an Associate Professor in animal science at the University of Bologna. She is a member of the Animal Transport Associatio­n (ATA), the Internatio­nal Society of Equitation Science (ISES) and the European Associatio­n of Animal Production (EAAP).
