Kiwanis Sells Out Annual Crab Feed Fundraiser
It may have been number 13 – but it wasn’t unlucky for the Escalon Kiwanis Club, as their annual Crab Feed was a sellout success.
Organizer Pam Dyer said the Saturday event, Jan. 21 at the Escalon Community Center, hosted over 315 diners.
“We’re sold out, as of 20 minutes ago,” Dyer said in checking her list about 10 a.m. Saturday, as volunteers set up tables, organized live and silent auction items and prepared the Community Center for the evening festivities.
The menu featured all you can eat crab, pasta, salad, rolls and ice cream cups for dessert and the proceeds of the dinner and the various auctions and opportunity drawings benefit multiple community and youth-related projects.
“Each table gets a bottle of red wine and a bottle of white wine,” Dyer added of special features of the crab feed, with the wine donated by McManis Winery. “Bloomingcamp also donated 10 pies for our pie auction, they do it every year.”
Among the unique items being auctioned off, an Adirondack chair made by the high school’s woodshop class, with local auctioneer Will Cockrell lending his voice and expertise to the proceedings.
Among the program benefitting, the annual Easter Egg Hunt, EHS Every 15 Minutes program, Christmas on Main, Haven of Peace, Thanksgiving Food Baskets, the Christmas Adopt-A-Family and the El Portal Student of the Month program, just to name a few.
Dyer said the goal of the annual crab feed is to support the youth in the community through the extensive variety of programs and services and she was pleased that, once again, residents turned out to enjoy the crab and benefit the kids.
