MJC’s Vis­it­ing Au­thor Series Hosts Randa Jar­rar

The Modesto Ju­nior Col­lege Vis­it­ing Au­thor Series presents an Evening with Randa Jar­rar on Wed­nes­day, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in Fo­rum 110 on East Cam­pus, 435 Col­lege Ave., Modesto. A ques­tion and an­swer ses­sion and book sign­ing will fol­low the au­thor’s read­ing. The event is free and open to the pub­lic. Cam­pus park­ing is $2 with­out a per­mit.

Jar­rar’s work has ap­peared in The New York Times Mag­a­zine, The Utne Reader, salon. com, Guer­nica, The Rum­pus, The Ox­ford Amer­i­can, Ploughshares, Five Chap­ters and other pub­li­ca­tions.

Her first novel, A Map of Home, was pub­lished in half a dozen lan­guages and won a Hop­wood Award, an ArabAmer­i­can Book Award and was named one of the best nov­els of 2008 by the Barnes and Noble Re­view. Her new book, Him, Me, Muham­mad Ali, came out in Oc­to­ber 2016.

Jar­rar has re­ceived fel­low­ships from the Civitella Ranieri Foun­da­tion, the Lan­nan Foun­da­tion, Hedge­brook and other or­ga­ni­za­tions, and in 2010 was named one of the most gifted writ­ers of Arab ori­gin un­der the age of 40. She heads the Ra­dius of Arab-Amer­i­can Writ­ers and en­joys co­or­di­nat­ing events and strength­en­ing com­mu­ni­ties.
