Escalon Times - - PERSPECTIVE -

Where does the word ‘terrier’ come from?

The Latin word for “earth” is terra. Therefore, the home of a fox or badger – being a hole in the earth – is a “terrier.” Because of this, a dog trained to chase a fox or badger from its “terrier” is called a “terrier”.
