City Animal Shelter Overrun With Pets

Escalon Times - - FRONT PAGE -

An unusually high number of animals in need of homes has the Escalon Animal Shelter nearly bursting at the seams. To help move some furry friends out, city Animal Services Officer Frankie Bowers said they are basically having a ‘two-for-one’ sale.

As of Monday, Sept. 11, the shelter was home to five dogs and some two dozen cats. The ‘two for one’ sale focuses on cat adoptions.

“Basically it would be $75 for the first one and $30 for the next one, so it would be $105 for two cats,” Bowers explained.

That would include the adoption fee and the spay/neuter surgery required before the cat or kit-

ten can be adopted out.

“We have a lot of kittens, and a few adult cats too,” Bowers said. “We’re full”

It has been a long time since the shelter has been this full and officials are hoping the ‘sale’ will encourage residents who have been thinking about adopting a pet to make their way to the shelter and get the process started.

“All our animals are posted online,” Bowers said of looking at the pets available.

The Escalon Animal Shelter is on River Road and is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays and Sundays. Someone is at the shelter during those hours unless they are out on a call; in that case, leave a message on the shelter phone, 209-838-9908.

“You can look on our Facebook page, also the animals are on PetFinder,” said Bowers.
