Betty Jean Oswald, born in Colorado City, Texas on Oc­to­ber 19, 1937, passed away on July 30, 2017. She was pre­ceded in death by her par­ents Ralph and Florence Oswald, her brother Charles Oswald and sur­vived by her two lov­ing sis­ters Patsy Oswald and Ju­dith Bour­ni­val, brother-in­law John Bour­ni­val, nephew Dou­glas and nieces Lisa and Cin­na­mon. Betty grad­u­ated from Escalon High School in 1955 where her beau­ti­ful singing voice was noted in her mu­sic class, trav­el­ing to San Fran­cisco to sing on sev­eral ra­dio shows. She grad­u­ated from Modesto Jr. Col­lege where her first choice for a ca­reer was jour­nal­ism, but changed to a teach­ing ca­reer and re­ceived her Mas­ter’s De­gree from San Fran­cisco State in speech and fur­ther­ing her ed­u­ca­tion in get­ting a cer­tifi­cate to teach hard of hear­ing chil­dren, teach­ing for over 39 years at Cleve­land El­e­men­tary School in Stock­ton, CA.

Betty loved read­ing, and ex­celled in pho­tog­ra­phy and wa­ter­color paint­ing. She trav­eled the world on tours and on her own. When she de­cided to take her sab­bat­i­cal from teach­ing, she met her sis­ter Patsy in Paris and be­gan their many trips to­gether ex­plor­ing France, Italy, Egypt, and Rus­sia. She was very spe­cial and in­spi­ra­tional to her stu­dents, friends and fam­ily. She will never be for­got­ten for all the won­der­ful qual­i­ties she pos­sessed. Spe­cial thanks to the staff and res­i­dents at Aegis Liv­ing, Kaiser Per­ma­nente and Kaiser Hospice for all their lov­ing care.

Grave­side ser­vices will be held at Bur­wood Ceme­tery on Septem­ber 30, at 10 a.m. with a gath­er­ing to share mem­o­ries from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Escalon United Methodist Church So­cial Hall at 2000 Jack­son Ave.
