David B. Ekholm, 71 of Ster­ling, IL died Tues­day Septem­ber 5, 2017 at CGH Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Ster­ling.

He was born on May 3, 1946 in Hemet, CA the son of Paul Alexis and Mar­garet Ber­na­dine (Brew­ster) Ekholm. David had served in Viet Nam with the US Army dur­ing the Viet Nam war.

He mar­ried the for­mer Cheryl Ol­son on April 12, 1979 in Dixon, IL.

He worked as a truck driver for many years for var­i­ous car­ri­ers most re­cently be­fore re­tir­ing for Chuck Swan­son from Prophet­stown, IL. He was an avid golfer and a Chicago Bears fan. David was a mem­ber of the “Black Horse”, a Viet Nam vet­er­ans group. His fam­ily es­pe­cially his grand­chil­dren were of his great loves.

Sur­vivors in­clude his wife, Cheri; two daugh­ters: Mitsy of Ster­ling, IL and daugh­ter Miya (Jonathan) Kressin of Kenosha, WI; grand­chil­dren: Ryan Bell of Dixon, IL, Rowan, Juniper and Hazel Kressin of Kenosha, WI; his sis­ters: Lu­cre­tia Brown of FL and Jackie Stan­dard of Rock Falls, IL; his broth­ers: Fred Gooden, Ed Gooden and Rick Gooden all of GA.

He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents.

Grave­side ser­vices with mil­i­tary hon­ors were held on Fri­day, Septem­ber 8, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Oak Knoll Me­mo­rial Park, Ster­ling, IL.
