Joao “John” Simoes passed away peace­fully sur­rounded by his fam­ily on Novem­ber 1, 2017 in Modesto at the age of 79. John was born on Septem­ber 28, 1938 in the Azores then im­mi­grated to Cal­i­for­nia about 50 years ago and has been a res­i­dent of Escalon ever since.

John was an avid dairy­man and took great pride in his work. He loved tend­ing to his cows and chick­ens as well as his gar­den and his yard. John en­joyed mak­ing his home­made wine. He was an ac­tive parish­ioner at St. Pa­trick’s Catholic Church and was a de­voted fam­ily man.

John leaves be­hind his wife of 46 years, Maria Simoes, his chil­dren; John Simoes (Tina), Lucy Simoes (Joe Amaral) and Christina Brown (Jeremy), his grand­chil­dren: Michael Simoes, Zachary Simoes, Eli­jah Simoes, An­gela Simoes, Court­ney Amaral, Mariah Amaral, Do­minic Amaral, Cody Brown and Lori Brown along with two great grand­chil­dren, Milo and Nova Simoes along with nu­mer­ous nieces, neph­ews and cousins. John is pre­ceded in death by his son, Manuel Simoes and his brother and two sis­ters.

Ar­range­ments have been en­trusted to Dee­gan Fu­neral Chapel. A visi­ta­tion is sched­uled for Tues­day, Novem­ber 7 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Dee­gan Chapel in Escalon with rosary to be­gin at 6 p.m. Fu­neral mass is sched­uled for Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Pa­trick’s Catholic Church in Escalon.
