This truck is a total turnkey daily driver; everything works as it should- e brake, door locks, windows, lighting, etc. insane, the combination works like a charm in the Mercury, providing big top-end power and plenty of low-end grunt.
Opening one of the four doors reveals a well-executed and useable interior. Kyle used a mix of original Ford parts. Up front, there are a set of bucket seats from a ’66 Mustang. The back seat came from a ’66 Custom Cab and the seats are all covered in parchment-colored OEM Ford vinyl. The dash pad is another OEM part that somehow survived intact. The steering wheel is sourced from a ’77 Mustang Cobra II, and it looks fantastic, proving once and for all that the Mustang II wasn’t entirely a flop. Dakota Digital gauges blend seamlessly and work with the more modern electronics. The overall effect is stunning: old and new together, looking like something Ford might have built from the factory.
Regardless of your beliefs on whether a vehicle like this should be preserved or modified, you have to admit that Kyle did a fantastic job saving the Mercury from rotting in a yard. Not only did he get it back on the road, but he also created a cohesive custom truck that is also functional for hauling his family and having fun. The modifications, while possibly offensive to purists, make the Mercury a riot to drive, which is really what it’s all about.
