Tractor Paint Q&A

Farm & Ranch Living - - FEEDBACK - RICHARD HOFER HILLSBORO, KANSAS MARK J. MUELLER WAVERLY, IOWA

Question: The John Deere 70 that you have on the cover of your June/July 2018 issue has the wrong color scheme. John Deere 70s are solid green with yellow wheels. John Deere 720s and 730s have the green and yellow color scheme of the tractor on the June/July cover. Can you explain why the tractor does not have the correct color scheme?

Answer: The reader is correct—the tractor was incorrectly painted. Fifty or so years ago the previous owner, a wheat farmer in North Dakota, installed a Heisler “Power Block,” which gave the engine the power of the later 720 tractor. So he repainted it to match the 720 paint scheme.
