The most well-known anti-inflammatory compound in the spice turmeric is curcumin, but the spice also contains other compounds that are key to healing GI troubles, say scientists in the journal Scientific Reports. In an animal study, mice with the inflammatory bowel disorder colitis who ingested curcumin and turmeric oils had a 46 percent drop in disease scores—about twice the efficacy of curcumin alone. To get the benefit, include 2 Tbs. of turmeric in your daily diet by adding the spice to soups and green smoothies.
