Breathing like this improves memory and focus

-

Practicing mindful breathing (by focusing on the depth and timing of breaths) can have powerful effects on cognition, say investigators in the journal Psychophysiology. In the study, participants tackled a tough mental task while researchers studied their breathing patterns and brain scans. The finding: Levels of brain chemicals that improve memory and focus rose when subjects were mindful of their breath. A one-minute breathing pattern that’s proven to sharpen focus: Breathe in for four counts, then exhale for six; repeat six times.
