In a 25-year meta-anal­y­sis of data from 15,400 adults, in­ves­ti­ga­tors from Brigham and Women’s Hos­pi­tal in Bos­ton found that sub­jects who got 50% to 55% of their daily calo­ries from com­plex carbs lived 12% longer than those who got less than 40% from carbs. The study au­thors note that lower-carb di­ets fa­vor­ing plant-based pro­tein were also as­so­ci­ated with lower mor­tal­ity than di­ets rich in an­i­mal-de­rived pro­tein.
