Common vaccine reduces risk of COVID complications
A routine vaccine has an added benefit: curbing COVID-19 complications. Tulane University researchers say the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine induces a “retraining” of immune cells so they jump into action against unrelated infections such as inflammation and sepsis, both complications of COVID-19. Childhood MMR vaccinations may explain COVID’s minor impact on kids. Most women born before 1989 received one dose of MMR; those in health care may benefit from a booster.
