Old Rhinebeck and Mustaches

Flight Journal - - AIRDROP -

Thank you for the fine article on the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. People with any interest in the history of aviation should be sure to visit it; they will be amazed—and amused. On one of my visits, I was invited to be part of the show. My part was to impersonate Alberto Santos-Dumont. I protested that I was too tall but was told that I had a mustache and would fit the costume. After getting dressed for the part, I rode in an antique automobile waving to the crowd. Later, I helped to handle their Bleriot on the ground. It was a treat for me. Eugene Souberman

The Rhinebeck formula of “Fun and Flying” is unique in America and shouldn’t be missed.—BD
