With a baker grand­fa­ther and restau­ra­teur sis­ter, Chris Comparato was the nat­u­ral choice when Toast co­founders aman narang, steve fre­dette and Jonathan Grimm needed a new Ceo. Toast, which makes sales- and in­ven­tory-man­age­ment soft­ware for restau­rants, has raised $30 mil­lion to han­dle the back end for restau­rants across all 50 states, from a Chi­nese chain in los an­ge­les to a nash­ville hot chicken joint. for many of those clients, Toast re­places pad and pen. “You’ve got to lis­ten and re­ally have em­pa­thy for what restau­rants go through to run a suc­cess­ful op­er­a­tion,” says Comparato. one thing busy own­ers want: sim­plic­ity. That’s why Toast has an­nounced deals with 20 other com­pa­nies, in­clud­ing de­liv­ery leader Grub­hub, to put their ser­vices in one cen­tral place.
