46. Leonard Lauder


The el­dest son of the makeup maven Estée, he joined his mother’s epony­mous com­pany in 1958 and rose to CEO in 1982. Be­fore step­ping down in 1999, he cre­ated Estée Lauder’s first R&D lab, launched brands Clin­ique and Ori­gins and led such ac­qui­si­tions as MAC and Aveda. He’s still on the board to­day, while his son Wil­liam is ex­ec­u­tive chair­man. The stock is up 22% in the past year.
