87. John Tu
Sun and Tu built a computer memory business and sold it to PC manufacturer AST in the early 1980s. But after pouring all their earnings into the stock market, the pair lost nearly everything in the crash of October 1987. They founded Kingston Technology, named for one of Tu’s favorite bands, the Kingston Trio, in a garage that same year. The $6.6 billion (sales) company makes and sells computer memory products. Tu is chief executive officer, and Sun is chief operating officer.
