Af­ter a mul­ti­year bake-off to de­ter­mine where to lo­cate his art and Star Wars mu­seum, Lu­cas set­tled on Los An­ge­les in Jan­uary, de­spite hav­ing spent years plan­ning to build it else­where, first in San Fran­cisco and then in Chicago. The Lu­cas Mu­seum of Nar­ra­tive Art is set to open in 2020 in L.A.’S Ex­po­si­tion Park. He will fund the con­struc­tion and a re­ported $400 mil­lion en­dow­ment to keep it run­ning. The Star Wars cre­ator sold Lu­cas­film to Dis­ney in 2012 for $4.1 billion in stock and cash. Lu­cas’ par­ents ran a sta­tionery store in Modesto, 300 miles north of Los An­ge­les. He at­tended ju­nior col­lege there be­fore trans­fer­ing to USC.
