186. Henry Samueli
In 2017 alone, Samueli pledged $20 million to UCLA and $200 million to UC Irvine, the school’s largest gift to date. He cofounded chipmaker Broadcom with Henry Nicholas (No. 226) in 1991. Singaporebased Avago Technologies acquired the business in a $37 billion deal in 2015; Samueli remains chief technical officer of the combined company, which was renamed Broadcom Limited. He received his B.S., M.S. and PH.D. in electrical engineering from UCLA, and he is a professor at UC Irvine.
