He co­founded apollo, now the world’s sec­ond-largest pri­vate eq­uity shop, with leon black and Marc rowan in 1990, then took it pub­lic in 2011. He’s used his div­i­dends to buy stakes in the nba’s Philadel­phia 76ers and the nhl’s new Jersey devils. He now funds af­ter-school sports pro­grams that com­bine ath­let­ics with tu­tor­ing and men­tor­ship for low-in­come kids. “life is a team sport,” says Har­ris.
