As an In­di­ana un­der­grad, Cuban briefly ran a bar, Mot­ley’s Pub, which he started with rugby team­mates. It lasted for only one school year; ac­cord­ing to his col­lege year­book, Mot­ley’s shut­tered in May 1980 af­ter “al­leged state liquor law vi­o­la­tions.” His later ven­tures have been much more suc­cess­ful. He and fel­low IU alum Todd Wag­ner sold Broad­cast.com to Ya­hoo for $5.7 billion in stock in 1999.
