age: 66 res­i­dence: scotts­dale, ariz. B.S., u. of Bal­ti­more ’75 The founder of Web-host­ing firm Godaddy strug­gled in school, flunk­ing 5th grade and nearly fail­ing 12th. He de­cided to en­roll in the Ma­rine Corps and headed to Viet­nam. He cred­its his tour of duty, dur­ing which he re­ceived a Pur­ple Heart, as turn­ing his life around. Af­ter his re­turn, he got a de­gree in ac­count­ing from the Univer­sity of Bal­ti­more, and in 1984 he started his first soft­ware com­pany. (See story, p. 81.)
