In the early 1990s, he backed the illfated Biosphere 2, a flawed experimental enclosed system designed to demonstrate how humans can live in space. He has since spearheaded the redevelopment of downtown Fort Worth’s Sundance Square, where the Bass Performance Hall is said to be one of the world’s top 10 opera houses. In January he and his 3 brothers, all billionaires, sold their Texas oilfields to Exxonmobil for $5.6 billion in stock.
