Like the man who would eventually make him a billionaire, Gottesman made a very well-timed investment. He met Warren Buffett and early on invested in Berkshire Hathaway. Today Gottesman has nearly $1.8 billion in shares of the Buffett-led firm. Gottesman’s own firm, First Manhattan, has over $20 billion in assets under management. Gottesman partly funded the National Library of Israel project in Jerusalem, which is slated to open in 2020.
