Ph.d., Bran­deis ’87 Lurie, the owner of the NFL’S Philadel­phia Ea­gles team, took an ex­ec­u­tive role in 1982 at Gen­eral Cinema Corp., the film com­pany founded by his grand­fa­ther. He spent years in academia, teach­ing so­cial pol­icy at Bos­ton Univer­sity af­ter earn­ing a doc­toral de­gree at Bran­deis. In 1994 he got a loan from the Bank of Bos­ton to pur­chase the Philadel­phia Ea­gles for $185 mil­lion; the team is now worth $2.65 billion. De­spite hav­ing to give up part of the team dur­ing his 2012 di­vorce, his ma­jor­ity stake still rep­re­sents the bulk of his for­tune.
