Ear­lier this year, the Penn­syl­va­nia na­tive and son of a dry goods store owner an­nounced he would do­nate $25 mil­lion to his alma mater, Abing­ton High School. It was lauded as the big­gest gift ever to a pub­lic school, but the plan to re­name the school af­ter him was scotched af­ter a back­lash from the com­mu­nity. Sch­warz­man still came through with his gift. Other no­table do­na­tions in­clude $100 mil­lion to the New York Pub­lic Li­brary and $117 mil­lion to Sch­warz­man Schol­ars, which sends stu­dents from around the world to a one-year mas­ter’s pro­gram in China.
