Soccer’s Most Valuable Teams

Forbes - - Sportsmoney -

THE 20 RICHEST soccer franchises are worth an average $1.4 billion, up 24% from a year ago. Credit new TV deals: The largest by far is the three-year, $7.9 billion agreement inked by the English Premier League with Sky Sports and BT Sport, worth 70% more than the current pact.

How big is that? Consider that the NFL earns $6.9 billion a year from its domestic TV deals, while the NBA will take in $2.7 billion annually when its new agreement begins with the 2016– 17 season. The second-biggest soccer deal is for the Serie A in Italy, at $1.1 billion a season.

The two most valuable teams—real Madrid and Barcelona—are consistently great on the pitch, enabling the Spanish duo to make money year after year from the Champions League and corporate sponsorships.
