MENDOCINO » It will be a quiet Fourth of July in Mendocino County as some of the region’s most popular holiday events have been canceled.

Coronavirus-related shelter in place orders have yet to be lifted, meaning many Independence Day staples cannot go on as planned. Fourth of July parades in Mendocino and Point Arena have been canceled, as have fireworks displays in Fort Bragg and Point Arena.

Cancellation of these events were announced in a news release by Tabatha Miller, Fort Bragg’s

City Manager. “We are all disappointed that we ended up having to cancel our summer events, the Fourth of July and the other events that the nonprofit groups in our community put on…Those events are important not only to our locals and the surrounding areas, but they’re also big draws for tourists, which is part of the reason, of course, that we had to cancel them. Those decisions were made many weeks ago, just in preparation for the possibility—and given where we’re at now, from a health standpoint, I do believe they were wise, if disappointing to us.”
