• Mr. and Mrs. Carl Junker, Sherwood Road, Fort Bragg, were the guests of honor at a reception honoring their golden wedding anniversar­y at Kalevala Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Junker were wed in Arcata.

• A sunny day and a host of friends greeted Carl and Grace Sauer last Saturday afternoon at their Winifred Way home of 38 years as they celebrated their golden wedding anniversar­y. Carl and Grace were married in Tucson, Ariz., and moved immediatel­y to Albion where Carl was employed in the office of the lumber company there. They moved to Fort Bragg in 1928 where Carl was manager of the Bank of America until his retirement a few years ago.

• Jim Fee, popular Arrow Chevrolet lube man, had his tonsils removed at Redwood Coast Hospital last Friday.

• Mr. and Mrs. Jack Davidson, of Indian Shoals, and Mrs. Davidson’s father, Mr. Baumgartne­r, brought home from their two months European tour a fund of treasured memories of places and experience­s.

• At Coast Twin Cinemas: Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones in “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” Steve McQueen in “Tom Horn.”

• Services will be held today for Helen Grace Paoli, 67, Fort Bragg, who died recently. In addition to being a housewife, Helen was a second-generation and lifelong resident of the Mendocino Coast and one of the founding members of the Mendocino Coast Chapter of the American Fuchsia Society.

• The “world’s largest salmon barbecue” begins this Saturday at noon on the south side of Noyo Harbor. All money received from the barbecue will help in restoring salmon to their once plentiful numbers. Most money raised by the barbecue is used to buy feed to take care of tiny salmon fingerling which are under the care of the Salmon Restoratio­n Associatio­n. The search has been given up by the Coast Guard for a man presumed drowned Tuesday evening when his boat struck a rock off Todd’s Point and capsized. Three women were rescued from ocean waters. Presumed drowned is Floyd Crotwell, 52, of Pittsburg, who was piloting his 18-foot craft near Todd’s Point Tuesday.

• A 50th wedding anniversar­y party was held recently for Reginald and Evelyn Head of Fort Bragg. The party was held at their home on Parkview Drive. Mr. and Mrs. Head were married in Grants Pass, Oregon, and spent the early part of their married life in Eureka before moving to the Bay Area. They have lived in Fort Bragg for the past seven years since Mr. Head retired as a teamster.
