At­lanta Pride an­nounces grand mar­shals, site for kick­off party

At­lanta Pride may be some four months away, but or­ga­niz­ers are giv­ing the public a sneak peek of what to ex­pect when the fest takes place Oct. 10–11.

This year the At­lanta Pride Com­mit­tee re­ceived 70 nom­i­na­tions for grand mar­shal, the most ever. Those se­lected to lead the pa­rade on Oct. 11 are: At­lanta Gay and Les­bian Cham­ber of Com­merce (AGLCC); Swami Jaya Devi Bha­ga­vati; Ste­fani Black­mon; Ulester Dou­glas; La Trina P. Jack­son; Ray­nae Jones; Gus Kauf­man Jr., Ph.D.; Tracee McDaniel; Daniel Ash­ley Pierce; South­ern Jewish Re­source Net­work for Gen­der and Sex­ual Di­ver­sity (SO­JOURN); Charles Henry Stevens; and Trans* and Friends.

“The hon­orees for 2015 rep­re­sent a won­der­ful cross-sec­tion of the work be­ing done in our LGBTQ com­mu­nity,” said At­lanta Pride Com­mit­tee Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor Buck Cooke in a state­ment. “From Pride or­ga­niz­ing to trans­gen­der ac­tivism, from ed­u­ca­tion to com­merce, these in­di­vid­u­als are chang­ing the way that LGBTQ Ge­or­gians live their lives and ex­pe­ri­ence equal­ity across our state.”

The APC also an­nounced the Ge­or­gia Aquar­ium will host the of­fi­cial kick­off party on Fri­day, Oct. 9. This is the sixth year At­lanta Pride has held its kick­off party at the pop­u­lar tourist at­trac­tion.

DJ Bran­don Moses and At­lanta fa­vorite VJ Di­ablo Rojo will be pro­vid­ing the beats for the party.
