Re­cent high-pro­file events in­clude a group of Min­nesota play­ers don­ning proBlack Lives Mat­ter shirts at a bas­ket­ball game and an out New York player’s poignant es­say fol­low­ing the Or­lando shoot­ings, in ad­di­tion to Claren­don’s own re­cent Esquire Mag­a­zine ed­i­to­rial urg­ing more at­ten­tion to trans­gen­der rights.

“It is gen­er­a­tional,” said Claren­don, who now plays for the At­lanta Dream. “The younger peo­ple are just be­ing more out­spo­ken.”
