Woman al­legedly stole funds

An Abing­ton woman must an­swer to charges in Mont­gomery County Court that she al­legedly stole nearly $25,000 from Dn EDsW 1RUULWRn GRFWRU’s RI­fiFH wKHUH sKH RnFH wRUNHG Ds Dn RI­fiFH PDnDJHU.

Me­gan Galo, 47, of the 1900 block of More­land Road, waived her pre­lim­i­nary hear­ing be­fore Dis­trict Court Judge Ester J. Casillo of East Norriton on charges of theft by de­cep­tion and re­ceiv­ing stolen prop­erty in con­nec­tion with al­leged in­ci­dents that oc­curred be­tween Jan­uary DnG -uOy, DFFRUGLnJ WR GRFuPHnWs fiOHG Ln county court. Galo, who re­mains free on $10,000 un­se­cured bail, faces a for­mal ar­raign­ment on the charges in county court Sept. 12.

Galo faces a pos­si­ble max­i­mum sen­tence of 14 to 28 years in prison if she’s con­victed of all the felony charges at trial.

An in­ves­ti­ga­tion of Galo be­gan July 16 when East Norriton po­lice re­sponded to the Cen­ter for Ad­vanced Or­tho­pe­dics, 716 West Ger­man­town Pike, for a re­port of a theft. A doc­tor re­ported Galo, an of- fiFH PDnDJHU, sWROH FDsK GHSRsLWs WRWDOLnJ $24,962 be­tween Jan. 1 and July 9, acFRUGLnJ WR WKH DUUHsW DI­fiGDvLW fiOHG Ey EDsW Norriton Po­lice Sergeant David W. Boyer.

“$s RI­fiFH PDnDJHU, SDUW RI 0HJDn GDlo’s job was to de­posit cash and checks for Cen­ter for Ad­vanced Or­tho­pe­dics,” al­leged Boyer, adding a doc­tor and a biller at the prac­tice stated it was solely Galo’s re­spon­si­bil­ity to de­posit funds.

Galo, au­thor­i­ties al­leged, did not re­turn de­posit re­ceipts to the biller for cash or checks that were sup­posed to be de­posited be­tween Jan­uary and July de­spite re­peated re­quests for them.

“Me­gan Galo ad­mit­ted she had taken cash from the prac­tice on and off for about a year and a half,” Boyer al­leged.

When asked how much money she had taken, Galo al­legedly told her su­pe­ri­ors that she took about $80,000 from the prac­tice, ac­cord­ing to the crim­i­nal com­plaint.
