Glenside News - - OPINION - By Mike Prince

An already delayed game whLch ended up beLng suspended untLl the next day wasn’t enough to slow down an Upper Moreland team whLch hasn’t been very famLlLar wLth defeat Ln the last four postseasons.

EnterLng thLs year’s playoffs on a 24-game wLnnLng streak, whLch has seen four consecutLve Pen-Del League champLonshLps for Upper Moreland, the Brewers contLnued to do what they do best, defeatLng Northampton Ln each of the first two games of a best-of-five semLfinal serLes on Sunday afternoon at Masons MLll Park’s -oe Donovan FLeld.

Thanks to a 5-1 wLn Ln Game 1 and a 3-0 wLn Ln Game 2, the Brewers took control of the serLes before the two teams traveled to Northampton to play Game 3 later on Sunday.

,n the first game, Doug Brown finLshed off the masterpLece whLch he started on Saturday before the raLn fell, pLtchLng a complete game two-hLtter, strLkLng out 11 batters whLle allowLng just one unearned run to pLck up the vLctory.

,f the Brewers contLnue to play the way they dLd on Sunday, Lt’s goLng to be tough for any team to get past them Ln the finals.

And Lt was both the pLtchLng staff and the offense whLch helped agaLnst Northampton.

Mark Roth blasted a tworun homer Ln the bottom of the second LnnLng to put Upper Moreland up 2-0 Ln Game 1. That score remaLned untLl the suspended game resumed on Sunday, whLch saw Upper Moreland waste lLttle tLme Ln puttLng more runs on the board. Af- ter one run Ln the fifth, the Brewers scored two more Ln the sLxth thanks to a double by MLke Gers, an RB, sLngle by NLck ChLaverellL and an RB, double by Nobel Unger.

,n Game 2, whLch began shortly after the first game concluded, Lt agaLn only took untLl the second LnnLng for the Brewers’ bats to get goLng.

After NLck Fasano led the LnnLng off wLth a groundrule double to left-center field, Lt appeared that Northampton would get out of the LnnLng unscathed, but a catcher’s Lnterference call kept the wLnnLng goLng for the Brewers. A wLld pLtch and an RB, sLngle by Bryan TorresanL scored Fasano and Gers to put Upper Moreland up 2-0 after two LnnLngs.

WLth rLght-hander Corey CrLspell on the mound, the Brewers cruLsed to vLctory.
