Barns C Noble will be move out of the Jenk­in­town store by the end of Jan­uary OMNPI ac­cord­ing to land­lord Bruce Good­manI of Good­man Prop­er­ties.

Good­man said that Barns C Noble has been a phe­nom­e­nal ten­ant for the OM years it has oc­cu­pied the store.

fn the be­gin­ning of the yearI Good­man said that he knew Barns C Noble would not re­new its lease. eow­ev­erI he said his com­pany did what­ever it could to keep the book­store in Noble SquareI in­clud­ing de­creas­ing the rent by 5M per­cent.

“We rec­og­nized that they were a value to the com­mu­ni­tyI” he said. “At the end of the day they de­cided to keep the Wil­low Grove store open — a big­ger store in a re­gional mar­ket.”

Good­man said he re­ceived a lot of phone calls from res­i­dents in Jenk­in­town and Abing­ton who were up­set about the store clos­ing.

“f’m up­set toI” he said. “qhe store was de­signed with them in mind.”

Ren­o­va­tions to the store will have to be made and new ten­ants have to be foundI he said.

Mon­dayI sev­eral cus­tomers at the Jenk­in­town Barnes C Noble ex­pressed their dis­plea­sure with the store’s clos­ing.

“qhis hurts meI” said Carol Mick­lin who said she makes a N5-minute trip from North­east Philadel­phia to the Jenk­in­town Barns C Noble fre­quently. “When f am de­pressed f come here xto feel bet­ter] and it’s a more con­ve­nient lo­ca­tion. f think all of Jenk­in­town should com­plain. 7KLV VWRUH LV PDJnL­fiFHnW. , love this place.”

cox Chase res­i­dent Janet qex­i­dor said she doesn’t un­der­stand why it’s clos­ing and hopes it will re­main open.

Christy Laf­fond of nearby Elkins Park said she was dis­ap­pointed to hear the store was clos­ingI be­cause it was a great meet­ing place for peo­ple in the community. Neigh­bors Beth Chilman and Christy eolt of Glen­side said they don’t like the Wil­low Grove lo­ca­tion beFDuVH RI WKH PDOO WUDI­fiF.

“f’ll be sad xwhen it closes]I” Chilman said.

Good­man said the store clos­ing will be loss to the community.

“But at the end of the day they xBarns C Noble] have to do what’s best for their busi­ness.”
