Ama­zon de­nies re­port of cloud sale

Ama­zon Web Ser­vices (AWS), the cloud com­put­ing plat­form pro­vided by Ama­zon.com Inc said it did not sell its business in China on Tues­day, con­trary to me­dia re­ports that such a sale will end Ama­zon’s cloud com­put­ing business in the coun­try.

“In or­der to com­ply with the Chi­nese law, AWS sold cer­tain phys­i­cal in­fra­struc­ture as­sets to Beijing Sin­net Tech­nol­ogy Co,” the plat­form said on its of­fi­cial WeChat ac­count on Tues­day.

Ama­zon.com’s long-time Chi­nese part­ner, Beijing Sin­net Tech­nol­ogy Co, said it would ac­quire Ama­zon’s Chi­nese web ser­vices business for up to 2 bil­lion yuan ($301 mil­lion), Reuters re­ported early Tues­day.

Sin­net, which be­gan op­er­at­ing the Ama­zon ser­vices in Au­gust 2016, said in a fil­ing late on Mon­day the deal would help the unit “com­ply with lo­cal laws and reg­u­la­tions and fur­ther im­prove ser­vice qual­ity and se­cu­rity.”
