Guess the Pink Tees Winners Announced
This time last year I was writing about how excited I was that there were only 78 days, 9 hours, and 12 minutes remaining until the golfing world turned their attention to Chambers Bay Golf Course for the 115th U.S. Open. The energy and anticipation was palpable. I found myself giggling with excitement when I learned that Tiger Woods and Phil Mickleson made discrete advanced visits to play the course. And when the event came and went as fast as a passing shower, I know I experienced what seemed like a mourning period for the passing of a historic month for the Pacific Northwest. One year later, the event’s legacy remains contentious, but I like to focus on the positives-- and there are a ton of them.
This year, I’m excited to begin counting down to seeing the world’s best women golfers converge on the gorgeous Sahalee Country Club and compete for the 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship held June 7-12. The course is truly sublime and the projected field will be second to none. The prospect of seeing my fellow New Zealander and current world #1; Lydia Ko, up close and personal is frankly riveting! Mark your calendars now, people. Golf Today will be there all week and we’ll be bringing you updates and interviews on social media, so stay tuned.
In this month’s issue, we take a closer look at some of our top Northwest casinos and their golf courses, including the Gene Bates-designed Circling Raven, located in Worley, ID. If you’ve played Salish Cliffs on this side of the Cascades and enjoyed the experience, you’ll likely love Circling Raven. Throw in the appeal of the CDA Casino with high quality accommodations and entertainment options galore, and your spring golf getaway is primed for success! We also offer you an opportunity to review the latest wedge offerings from many major manufacturers, as reviewed by regular contributor, Ed Travis. This is the second year that we’ve kick-started April with what we think are some top wedge options to help your short game. From Callaway, Cleveland, and, Mizuno PING, to Wilson Golf, you’re likely to find the right set of wedges designed to help you hit it close more consistently. In fact, let us know what your favorite brand is and why.
Also worthy of mention this month: we introduce you to Joann Dost, photographer and author of the recently released The Ultimate Round: Pebble Beach Golf Links-an Illustrated Guide to America’s Majestic Dream Course, and Oregon Junior Golfer Madalyn Ardueser-- who just so happens to carry a +0.4 handicap! Contributor Cliff Cowley offers his take on the under-rated Quail Ridge Golf Course in Baker City, OR., which gives new meaning and appreciation to the idea of community golfing. Resident nutritionist, Cate Ritter offers 4 Tips for a Healthier Post-round Eating Routine and Doctor Harry Sese ( aka. The Golfing Doc) suggests creating a team of individuals qualified to help you be at your physical best on the golf course. When you’re not at your best, your game and en- joyment suffers, right? In our Golf Gear Section, we look at some of the latest products on the market including the Swing Click and Copper-infused golf gloves… yes, copper! Last, but certainly not least, congratulations to all winners of our Guess the Pink Tees Contest held at the Vancouver, Spokane, and Seattle Golf Shows last month. Troy L. of Langley, British Columbia will be heading to Reno, NV to enjoy his stay at the Atlantis Casino Resort and Spa, with golf for two at the incredible Grizzly Ranch Golf Club. Have fun, Troy! And, Missy M. and her friend will be teeing it up at Chambers Bay Golf Course, the site of the 115th U.S. Open! Hit ‘em straight, Missy. Also, congrats to Clayton R. of Bothell, WA., our Seattle Golf Show winner. Clayton is heading south to enjoy an overnight stay and play package at the fabulous Black Butte Ranch in Bend, OR. Let us know how you get on! And to everyone else who took the time to stop by our booths this year to enter to win our contests, talk golf, or just to say hello, I cannot thank you enough! See you next year!
