DS steps into action for Tiger 5K
The Dripping Springs Band Boosters sponsor the Tiger 5K Fun Run/Walk each year in April, both as a major fundraiser and as a community event. The 6th Fun Run event was held April 22, 2006.
The race is held in the Hidden Springs Ranch neighborhood across from the TrailHead business center. Signs on 290 West will direct participants to the race and to the parking areas. It is a USA Track & Field certified course (#TX04011JF) and results will be posted at www.RunTex.com.
The 5K began in 2001 as a fundraiser for the DS Band Boosters. In just a few short years it has become a great community event with participants from across the area. The neighbors in the Hidden Springs Ranch join the festivities either on the course or by cheering from their yards.
“We like to see the many types of participants that come out every year,” says Jean Boothby, Band Booster president. “ There are students from the schools, families with children and strollers, along with serious runners from local marathons. This is really a fun morning for all.”
Prizes are awarded to the overall male and female winners, the Master’s male and female winners and first, second and third place winners in each age group. Prizes include hotel stays, dinners, local specialties and more. All participants will receive a certificate of recognition from Governor Rick Perry and a medallion.
The fastest runners are not the only winners, however. Band students pack the participants’ packets with loads of terrific items donated from local and not-so-local businesses and individuals. During and after the race, various “goodies” are given out at random and larger item door prizes are awarded.
“ We have wonderful sponsors and volunteers who give so generously of their goods and time,” said race co-director Carol Felkel. “ The money raised will directly benefit the band programs of the Dripping Springs schools and the students as well as the Band Boosters thank all involved.”
The entry fee is $10 (for kids 10 and under), $16 for pre-registered adults or $21 on race day. Registration forms and information are posted at many area businesses the week before the race or can be found at www.runtex.com.
