Driv­ing home late af­ter her school’s open house, Su­san Wiles is jolted by a thump on the hood of her car. She finds Melissa Chad­wick, her school’s as­sis­tant prin­ci­pal, in the road. She calls her daugh­ter, Lynette, a de­tec­tive with the lo­cal po­lice force. They soon learn that Chad­wick was dead be­fore hit­ting the car. Wiles can’t help won­der­ing how a dead body could find its way to a lonely road late at night and be­gins in­ves­ti­gat­ing.

Cu­rios­ity soon leads her into dan­ger­ous ter­ri­tory with no short­age of sus­pects: the school’s new mu­sic teacher, Chad­wick’s hus­band, even a sleazy brother-in-law. Wiles is de­ter­mined to solve this mystery, re­gard­less of the dan­ger.

Then she finds an­other body. One of her sus­pects has been mur­dered and she knows that she has gained the at­ten­tion of some­one very dan­ger­ous. Will she find them, or will she be­come the next vic­tim?
