Renowned artist to teach paint­ing work­shops at Vol­cano Art Cen­ter

Painters, is your medium oils or it is acrylics? Or both? Well, grab your brushes and hang on to your pal­ettes be­cause Vol­cano Art Cen­ter is of­fer­ing both for Pa­trick Ching’s for­est bird paint­ing work­shops at the Ni­aulani Cam­pus in Vol­cano Vil­lage.

Have fun and en­joy an acrylic ex­pe­ri­ence with the Draw­ing Les­son and Acrylic Paint­ing Party from 6-9 p.m. Tues­day, Jan. 17.

Class fee is $60 and in­cludes all paint, plus a 9-by-12-inch can­vas board and all ma­te­ri­als. Ching will of­fer light in­struc­tion. Please bring pic­tures of a bird you’d like to paint.

Join Ching for the In­ten­sive Oil Paint­ing Tech­niques work­shop us­ing Gen­e­sis Heat Set oil paints from noon5 p.m. Wed­nes­day, Jan. 18.

Class fee is $250 and in­cludes 9-by-12-inch can­vas, plus all paints and ma­te­ri­als. Class size is lim­ited.

Ching will of­fer con­cen­trated per­son­al­ized in­struc­tion. Please bring pic­tures of a bird you’d like to paint.

Ching is a renowned Hawai­ian con­ser­va­tion­ist and wildlife artist, au­thor and or­nitho­log­i­cal il­lus­tra­tor who has gar­nered in­ter­na­tional recog­ni­tion for his re­al­is­tic ren­der­ings of na­ture; Hawaii’s na­tive birds, in­sects, plants and ferns come alive through his vi­brant art.

As he rem­i­nisced, “I de­cided to de­vote my life to ed­u­cat­ing peo­ple about Hawaii’s na­tive wildlife through my art. I paint the places and things that I love with the col­ors that have sur­rounded my life. My ob­jec­tive is to take the beauty that I have ex­pe­ri­enced and bring it into peo­ple’s homes and their lives so that they may ap­pre­ci­ate the things that are nat­u­rally Hawai­ian.”

The VAC’s Ni­aulani Cam­pus is lo­cated at 19-4074 Old Vol­cano Road.

The Vol­cano Art Cen­ter is a non­profit ed­u­ca­tional or­ga­ni­za­tion cre­ated in 1974 to pro­mote, de­velop and per­pet­u­ate the artis­tic and cul­tural her­itage of Hawaii’s peo­ple and en­vi­ron­ment through ac­tiv­i­ties in the vis­ual, lit­er­ary and per­form­ing arts.
