The 54th An­nual Mer­rie Monarch Fes­ti­val’s hula com­pe­ti­tion of­fi­cially started Thurs­day at Edith Kanaka‘ole Multi-Pur­pose Sta­dium when 10 young women, none of whom were rep­re­sent­ing Big Is­land halau, vied for hula’s most pres­ti­gious solo ti­tle, Miss Aloha Hula.
